Thanatonautes is a title of French writer Bernard Werber's novel which is a word that is made by combining the Greek words 'Thanatos' that means death and 'Nautes' that means travelers of the sea in Greek. The reason why I chose Thanatonautes for this exhibition is because the stories of the explorers' adventures in the posthumous world are interesting like playing a game, and the theme of death itself has its own mysterious charm. Death is a future for all of us; it is natural but could be something we do not want to deal with. But, the love for death becomes the love for life,' as well as the freedom of death makes us ultimately free. My game for the exhibition is based on the novel Thanatonautes which is transformed into an abstract image as a computer game.

The first idea of the image of my work <Thanatonautes> was a moving abstraction. By inserting a slightly playful characteristic within the process of the audience's interaction, I wanted to change the heavy theme of death into a lighthearted experiment. In <Thanatonautes> there are seven lines of white sticks that move in different speed, and one red stick that starts from the bottom and has to go through all the seven lines avoiding the white ones ta reach the top. The seven lines af white sticks could be the seven steps that we have to take to get to heaven, or the seven steps of our Karma. When the red stick reaches the top, it moves to the circular passage, and gradually a white light overspreads the screen. I used a bicycle wheel for the audiences' interaction. This is a reminiscence of Marcel Duchamp' s <Bicycle Wheel> and also a metaphor for moving forward. to change the heavy theme of death into a lighthearted experiment.
