태양 한 조각

나는 문득 창문을 통해 방 안으로 들어오는 햇볕을 보며 날씨와 태양의 위치와 흔들리는 나뭇가지가 만들어 내는 미묘한 빛의 움직임을 관찰하게 되었다 . 바람의 속도와 방향 , 구름의 움직임 , 나무의 흔들림 , 그리고 창문의 위치와 방안의 구조는 하나가 되어 다시는 볼 수 없는 미니멀한 도형의 움직임을 실시간으로 만들어 내고 있었다 . 그 움직이는 평행사변 형은 대자연의 다양한 변수들을 극단적으로 응축해 놓은 빛의 키네틱 예술처럼 느껴져 나는 순식간에 그 아름다움에 사로잡히고 말았다 . 이후 여러 곳에서 실내공간으로 들어온 햇빛의 모습과 움직임의 특징을 기록하고 분석하여 이러한 움직임을 컴퓨터 아트의 형태로 제작한 것이 < 태양 한 조각 > 이다 .
< 태양 한 조각 > 은 관객의 움직임이 미묘한 빛의 형태 , 그리고 움직임으로 바뀌어 실내 공간 안에 투영된다 . 공간 안에는 빔 프로젝터라는 가상의 태양과 창이 있고 관객의 움직임은 창 밖의 풍경을 대변하여 빛을 움직이게 한다 . 삶의 시간들을 대부분 사각형 박스 안에서 보내는 현대인들에게 < 태양 한 조각 > 은 햇빛과 자연의 움직임을 느낄 수 있게 하는 위안이 기를 기대한다 .
A Piece of Sun

I happened to observe subtle light movements projected through my window. The movements of the clouds and the branches, the window position and the room interior combined with the sun light to perform a live dance creating minimal geometric images that I cannot play back. I was fascinated by the moving parallelograms that looked as if they had implied all the variables of nature to the extreme in order to create kinetic art of light. Since then I have recorded and analyzed the movements of light projected on to various indoor areas and collaborated them into my computer art, ‘A Piece of Sun'. This computer art catches the viewer's movement and turn it to a form of light, color and movement onto spaces at the exhibition. We have a beam projector as a fake sun and window, and the audiences as the trees and clouds outside the window to produce the light movements. I hope ‘A Piece of Sun' provides therapeutic movements of feeling the nature for those urban people who spend most of their life in rectangular spaces.
